Frequently asked questions
What is the Social Athletics program?
The Social Athletics program is a fun, friendly, and relaxed environment where, approximately every three weeks, participants gather to compete in up to six athletic events. It’s perfect for people of all abilities who want to stay active and have a great time in a safe and supportive environment.
Each meet lasts about two hours, depending on the number of participants and events.
Who can join the Social Aths?
Anyone aged 17 and above can join! Social Athletics program is inclusive of all ages 17+, and we have many participants who are older adults.
No fitness level or experience is required to join. We welcome all fitness levels, whether you're a seasoned athlete or just looking for a fun way to stay active. The program is designed for all abilities, from beginners to experienced athletes and you can tailor your participation to your own fitness level.
Northern Districts Athletics Club is committed to inclusivity. If you have any specific access and ability requirements, feel free to contact us, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
What types of events are included in the program?
Each session begins with a group warm-up to help prevent injuries and ensure participants feel ready to go.
The events typically cover a range of track and field activities, such as sprints, middle distance running, jumps (long, triple & high) and throws (shot put, discus & Javelin). Every session includes six different events, so there’s always something new to try.
While we encourage everyone to give each event a try, you can choose which events you feel comfortable participating in. If you’d prefer to only participate in one or two events, you’re more than welcome. The program is flexible to suit your comfort level.
Where are the events held?
All events take place at the Northern Districts Athletics Club’s home venue the state of the art Bridgestone Athletics Centre (Frost Road Salisbury). Click Here to view on Google Maps
For those without access to a vehicle there is Public Transport Options Available via Train or Bus.
Train: Gawler Line - Bridgestone Athletics Centre is situated adjacent to the Chidda Station
Bus: 225 - Accessible via a short walk West along Frost Road from Bus Stop 46b
Do I need to be a member of the club to participate?
Yes, you’ll need to sign up for membership with Northern Districts Athletics Club to join the Social Athletics program. You can do this at ndac.au/join-aths for as little as $15 for a 2 meet Come & Try (Recreational Lite) or $75 for the full season Recreational Membership (Season runs Oct-Sept). These registrations provide a level of insurance
Having trouble? Feel free to attend one of our events to register in person. We’ll walk you through the process!
You can join at any time during the season. We have a flexible, open-door policy, so you won’t miss out.
Can I bring a friend, family member or children?
Absolutely! Friends and family are more than welcome to join in, either by participating, volunteering or cheering from the sidelines. We welcome kids as supporters (and have a bunch of regulars who already join us to cheer on their parents)!
What should I wear to the events?
Wear comfortable athletic clothing and suitable shoes for participation in activities including running. During our summer meets we also recommend bringing a hat, sunscreen, and water, while for the Winter or Evening meets a Jumper is recommended as it can get a little cool at Bridgestone
You’re welcome to bring your own equipment (e.g., gloves for shot put), but all necessary Athletic equipment and Implements are provided by the club.
Are the events timed or measured?
While the focus of Social Aths is on fun and participation, we do track results so that you are able to see your progress and achieve PBs (Personal Bests). End of the day it’s more about enjoying the experience than competing seriously.
Do I need to attend every meet?
No, participation is flexible. While we encourage regular attendance for the best experience, you can join whenever it suits your schedule. The best part of the 3-week cycle if you do happen to mis one the next one is just around the corner
What happens if the weather is bad?
In case of extreme weather conditions, we may postpone or reschedule the event. We’ll notify participants ahead of time via email or social media.
Can I get involved as a volunteer?
Yes! We’re always looking for volunteers to help out with running the events or assisting behind the scenes. It’s a great way to be part of the community.
What if I have other questions?
