Weekly sessions at Bridgestone Athletics Centre
Wednesday night sessions start at 6.30pm and go until about 8.00pm. It's an easy couple of laps followed by stretches and warm up drills and any announcements. Main sessions are comprised of interval training (which is periods of high intensity running followed by a recovery time which cycles) for around 40 minutes. We finish with 5 minutes of conditioning and then stretches.
Thursday Morning sessions are also at Bridgestone Athletics Centre from 7.00am till 8.00am. A quick 10-minute standing warm-up, then 30 minutes of low intensity run, a strong 15 minutes of conditioning and a couple of stretches to finish.
While people of all fitness levels are welcome at either session, beginners may find Thursday morning is better suited for them.
Other activities
We release a calendar at the start of the year with all activities and event we plan to participate in as a team throughout the coming year.
Coopers Test: 12-minute fitness tests are run 4 times a year (approx every 3 months). The test asks you to run as far as you can in 12 minutes, then record your distance and age, from there you will receive a VOmax, score and grade. It's a great way to see your progress over time.
Team parkruns: we select 8 different parkruns through the year where we meet up and compete in as a team, all wearing the team Recreational Runners yellow top. These are a great opportunity for members to get to know others and have a good time running together and cheering each other on. There's usually also the opportunity head to a café and enjoy a coffee or breakfast with team mates after the event.
Salisbury.RUN: is NDACs major event for the year. The Recreational Runners is key in organising and running this event.
We have a Salisbury.RUN committee that put the event together, but beyond that we really encourage all members to either participate in or volunteer for the event. All members that sign on to run the Salisbury.RUN receive a discount.
City to Bay: This is an event we schedule every year as we run a 12-week City to Bay training program in partnership with the City to Bay organisers.
This is a free 12-week program that anyone intending to do the City to Bay can join. Just turn up at the track any or all of the 12 weeks before the City to Bay is run. We also encourage our members to enter and usually our members receive a discount.
Clare Valley weekend: get away to Clare, entering the parkrun on the Saturday, then the Clare Running festival on the Sunday.
A couple of Semaphore Braveheart's events. And we do a trail run with Trail runners SA.
End of Year Christmas Dinner and awards night: a great time together going over all the achievements and goal for that year. There's plenty of award directed at all levels of ability and, let's be honest - it's nice to get dressed in something other than our running gear! A very special occasion.
Christmas Cup: the very last training session before Christmas. There are teams and we participate in some fun, easy games and activities. The team with the highest score at the end receives the Christmas Cup (which they hold for the entire year). Followed by pizza supplied by the club and snacks and drinks we bring to share.
Tour de RecTop: Coach Steve has created a list of all the parkruns throughout the World that our yellow team top has been seen at. The list is displayed in the Facebook Group and seems to increase almost every week. Everyone that does a parkrun in their RecTop and sends me a photo, that then gets posted on our page with the list.
Last, but not least, there are usually some other Sunday training runs and social nights organised throughout the year.
